DAY 2 (Thursday). METEORS – O. CORFU
Breakfast in the hotel. Moving to Kalambaka (distance about 230 km., About 3 hours).
Excursion to Meteora, visiting the main monastery (duration of the excursion is 1.5 – 2 hours).
Meteora is a place where you feel fear and delight at the same time! The extraordinary Meteor lies in the harmonious combination of a phenomenal natural landscape with the creation of human hands. Grandiose cliffs rushing up from the flat surface of the Thessalian valley and reaching a height of 600 meters represent a rare geological phenomenon. These amazing, massive, “sculptures” that seemed to hang in the air were called Meteors (from the Greek “meteoros” – floating in the air). Meteors are among the most honored places of pilgrimage for all Orthodox Christians and at the same time are one of the most visited places for both residents of the country and foreign tourists. Transfer to the port of Igoumenitsa (a distance of about 170 km, 2 hours and 30 minutes), boarding the ferry and arrival at about. Corfu (transfer by ferry takes 1h. 30min.) 3 DAY (Friday). O. CORFU – METSOVO – KASTORIA
Breakfast in the hotel. Sightseeing tour of Corfu (duration of the tour 2.5 – 3h.).
We invite you to a sightseeing tour of Corfu (the capital of Corfu Island), one of the most elegant cities in Greece, in the past – the city of the Venetian aristocracy. The symbol of this city of aristocrats is Liston Street, a small copy of the Paris Rue de Rivoli. Only noble nobles, whose names were on a special list, Liston in Greek, were allowed to walk along this street. Corfu Town is a city of two fortresses: on the one hand it is fenced by the Old Byzantine Fortress (1546), on the other hand by the New Fortress built to protect the city from the Turkish invasion between 1576 and 1588. At the medieval wall of the New Fortress there is a bas-relief in honor of Fyodor Ushakov: the invincible Admiral repeatedly saved the island from enemy occupation and looting, and was even canonized. Then we descend to the monastery of the Mother of God of Vlacherna, and afterwards we visit the island of Pondiconi mentioned above. The tour will continue with a walk in the historic center and along the medieval streets: the famous Spianada Square, the Palace of Saints Michael and George, formerly the residence of the Greek King, the Church of Saint Spyridon, the patron saint of the city, with its imperishable relics. Interestingly, the body temperature of a saint has been constant at 36.6 for many hundreds of years! Like a living person! It is said that the saint walks around the island very often to help those in need and generally be aware of what is happening in Corfu.
