Holidays in Spain – interesting facts

Who among us would not like to spend holidays in Spain? After all, this sunny country is famous for its pleasant climate, amazing natural landscapes, a lot of impressive sights, as well as unique cultural traditions.

It is here that you can spend a whole year by the sea on the beach: summer in the Balearic Islands, and winter in the famous Canaries. In addition, it is in Spain that the best youth parties are located, such as Ibiza, Costa Dorada, and Benidorm. You can tell a lot of interesting facts about this country, but you will learn about the most interesting of them now.

Spain is the most mountainous country in the whole of Europe, and its capital Madrid is considered the highest city.
It is no secret that holidays in Spain are famous for their bright sunshine. The total number of sunny days per year is 280 days. Surely this information will please many tourists. However, Spanish farmers are not at all amused, because a lot of harvest suffers from severe drought.
More than 90% of the population of Spain are zealous Catholics. Curiously, with the great influence of religion in Spain, gay marriage is allowed.
We should also tell about the siesta, which is a mandatory afternoon rest. This is a whole century-old tradition. There are three types of it – small (10–15 minutes), normal (30 minutes), and a lazy siesta (from 1.5 to 2 hours). Although the recommended afternoon break is 20 minutes, the Spaniards prefer to rest much longer.
It would not be superfluous to say that among all the animals of the local fauna the most common is the bat, which is also a traditional symbol of Valencia.
Spain ranks third in the number of wines produced in the world. It is second only to countries such as Italy and France.
Spaniards are extremely emotional people. Very often, the interlocutors come close to each other, speak loudly and even grab the participant of the conversation by the hands. So do not be surprised.
Of course, Spain is famous for the bullfight. Do you know what the red color of the matador’s cape means? If you think that in this way it irritates the bull, then you are mistaken – these animals do not distinguish colors. The red cloak helps to mask the blood in order to less traumatize the psyche of the audience.
For Spaniards, dinner at 9 or 10 pm is considered the norm. They are not surprised after midnight walks with children in the park. And the lights on the streets continue to burn brightly until late at night. All this is due to the hot day sun, so after sunset, real life is just beginning.
Holidays in Spain will not make you bored. So, the most fun and favorite holiday of the Spaniards, like the majority of visiting tourists, is the large-scale tomato battle – Tomatina. One day in 1945, two comrades quarreled in Bunolskaya Square, who in anger at each other began throwing tomatoes at each other. The residents of Valencia liked this activity so much that they decided to repeat it every year. As many as 100 tons of ripe tomatoes take part in the vegetable battle.
